There's much to learn when getting into Herping but I will break down some myths and help you get started on the right foot.
There is a bit of "discussion" on this matter but its usually out of the best of intentions.. When bringing home your first ball python you can go one of two routes...if you have a newborn hatchling you may hear to start small and build up as it grows. While this is the preferred path, it is possible to use a larger enclosure as long as you sufficiently add plenty of hides, greenery, branches, etc to create a sense of security. A front open ExoTerra 40 gallon breeder is absolutely perfect fo
ause Ball Pythons are ectothermic (they cannot regulate their own body heat) they need a cool side and a warm side. Each should have its own hide. The temps for the warm side should run between 85 and 90f while the cool side between 75-80f. NEVER PLACE A HEAT ROCK IN AN ENCLOSURE. It can injure and or kill it. You have 2 options for heating. 1) Ceramic Heat Emitter above the enclosure, 2) Under the tank "UTH" heater, (emphasis on UNDER) . Lastly aa Thermostat is a MST. Plug the Heat Te
Humidity is critical in so many ways. It will impact a healthy shed, Respiratory Infections and more. For a Ball Python the normal humidity should be between 50 and 60 allowing a spike to about 70 o r 75 while in shed. I could even see 80 as long as the surface of the substrate is not "wet" That can lead to scale rot. Humidity should be measured with a respectable Hygrometer. there are so many choices but GOVEE has some that will let you read the humidity from your phone.
